Title and description length
Google truncates titles and descriptions by pixel width, not a fixed character count. This tool estimates pixel width using typical character widths and shows a live preview.
- Titles: aim for about 50–60 characters (roughly 580px)
- Descriptions: aim for about 140–160 characters (roughly 920px on desktop)
Google may rewrite titles and descriptions when it thinks another text better matches the query.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my title cut off even though it is under 60 characters?
Wide letters (like W and M) and capitals take more pixels. Check the pixel estimate, not just characters.
Do meta descriptions affect rankings?
Not directly, but a clear description can improve click-through rate.
